OCLC FirstSearch News
New subscribers to the Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals (RIPM) database through the OCLC
FirstSearch service are eligible for a 25 percent discount on a two-year subscription when ordered by
October 31. Institutions that do not have a current subscription to RIPM via any one of RIPM's publishing
partners or institutions that have a current subscription to the RILM Abstracts of Music Literature database
on any service as of May 1 are eligible for this discount.
The Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals, 1800-1950 database covers the history of music and musical
life including contemporary information about composers, performers, critics, compositions, institutions,
musical instruments and more. The database is comprised of more than 450,000 annotated citations drawn
from a cumulative index to 179 volumes in the RIPM printed series and includes more than 233,000
reviews of musical performance and more than 9,600 biographical citations. Music researchers, scholars
and performers get retrospective coverage of the international music literature published from the last 18th to
the mid-20th centuries in both Europe and the United States.
For more information about the RIPM database, visit

on a per-search basis. For subscription information on alternate database options, contact BCR's Karen

ATLA Serials images are now hosted directly on OCLC services, allowing FirstSearch ATLAS subscribers
direct access to the ATLAS full-text collection of more than 70 major religion and theology journals.
Users will find many new benefits, including:
- Seamless and more timely access to ATLAS full text. No additional authentication is required,
and libraries using proxy servers no longer need to adjust the configuration tables to allow access.
- Elimination of firewall restrictions and other security issues associated with images being served
on ATLA remote services.
- Access to ATLAS full text images from more Web browsers/platforms. Browsers/platforms that
are supported for FirstSearch also work for ATLAS images.
- Ease in linking to ATLAS full text images via OpenURL.
- Easier access for other FirstSearch database users who link to ATLAS full text.
Libraries do not need to make any changes to benefit from the improved authentication and service. Users
will see a new full-text link, "View Full Text in GIF format (ATLA)," instead of "View Full Text on
remote site (ATLA)." OCLC provides the same level of functionality that is available on ATLA remote
servers.
