BCR Weighing Interest
in Evidence Matters Service
By Ellen Fox
BCR is working with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Midcontinental Region, to organize a
consortial purchase of the Evidence Matters online medical information service. We are considering
purchasing a pool of simultaneous users, or seats, and then sharing the seats among the consortium. For
example, if BCR learns that 20 libraries are interested in this medical resource, we may subscribe to 10
seats and share them. The subscription period for this database and software system, which is geared
toward physicians, researchers, decision-makers and interested patients, would begin January 1.
Three diseases will be covered: endocrinology, cardiology and oncology. BCR would like to keep the price
per library down to around $900. This would be a savings of more than $1,100 per library compared to an
individual purchase.
BCR needs to get a rough count of the number of libraries that would be interested in the service at the
price of $900. We are not asking for a positive commitment, but we would like a fairly accurate count.
If you think your library would be seriously interested in such a purchase, please send an e-mail message to
BCR's Ellen Fox, efox@bcr.org.
