Join CSA Philosopher's Index Group Subscription
It's time to renew/enroll in BCR's annual group subscription the CSA Philosopher's Index. The Philosopher's Index is a bibliographic database with informative, author-written abstracts covering scholarly research in all areas of philosophy.

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Updated
The third update to the online edition of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography is now available at www.oxforddnb.com/. An important and trusted source for research, scholarship and reference, highlights of the update include:

  • Ninety-eight new biographies — A full list of the new biographies is available to subscribers at www.oup.com/oxforddnb/info/dictionary/intro/05atitle/05clist/.
  • Thirty new reference group articles — Reference articles will be updated in May and October each year. A list of those available now can be found at www.oup.com/oxforddnb/info/dictionary/intro/05atitle/05clist/#refgrp.
  • New thematic articles and quick reference lists — Seven new thematic articles have been added to help users explore the content of the Oxford DNB. Visit the Themes home page at www.oxforddnb.com/themes/index.jsp.
  • New color images — 750 portrait images, previously available in black and white, are now reproduced in color.
  • Improved searching on modern countries.
  • Printable help and short guides — User guides can be printed off at www.oxforddnb.com/subscribers/.
  • New amendments and additions — A new version and extensive amendments to existing articles have been added.
  • Six thousand new links to external sources — More subjects are now linked to the National Register of Archives, along with new links to the Royal Historical Society bibliography.
  • Direct links to the American National Biography Online — There are also more than 850 direct links from the Oxford DNB to articles in the American National Biography Online (www.anb.org/).

Grove Art Online Update
The British Museum and Oxford University Press (OUP) have reached an agreement under which Grove Art Online will display nearly 400 images of important artwork in the British Museum collection. By spring 2006, Grove Art Online will be able to display images of British Museum objects in the text of articles. Users will be able to link directly to information on the British Museum's collections online Web site, COMPASS (www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/compass/), featuring a wealth of links, a glossary and background information and more than 50 tours on a variety of themes.

A special update devoted to Asian Contemporary Art is now available in Grove Art Online. Highlights of the update include 60 new articles, new biographies of significant artists and specially written thematic essays. Other features are a special introduction to Asian contemporary art and new "Print this Page" and "Email this Page" icons that appear on each article page, along with citation information at the bottom of the printed or e-mailed article. New enhancements to Quick Search and Search Results are designed to increase the accuracy of search results.
