BCR's Annual Group Subscription for LiON

By Lisa Holmberg
It is time to think about renewing your library's subscription to Literature Online (LiON). Literature Online is a modestly priced, unique online resource for literary studies. With more than 340,000 poems, prose and drama, and more than 120 specialist, full-text journals, it claims to be the world's largest cross- searchable database of literature and literary criticism. Literature Online is updated monthly as new material is licensed and digitized.

Literature Online's interface offers users a Quick Search function to get directly to the resources they need. Among available resources:

  • Thousands of journal articles and critical essays provide interpretation, putting authors into historical and critical context.
  • Dictionaries, encyclopedias and other reference works assist in finding definitions of literary terms.
  • Biographies offer an up-to-date summary of recent critical approaches and allow students to follow links to bibliographies of related writers.
  • Literature Online's collection of almost 340,000 poems from the 8th century to the present represents virtually the entire canon of poetry in English.

Literature Online includes free MARC records for integration into library systems, detailed usage statistics, training and promotional services and remote access.

The BCR discounted group subscription to Literature Online Reference Edition and Literature Online Complete runs April 1, 2005, through March 31, 2006. The renewal/order deadline is March 15. Pricing and the online renewal/order form are found on BCR's Web site at www.bcr.org/reference/lion/.
