Kansas Names New State Librarian; Idaho's
Bolles Steps Down, Joslin Steps In

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius recently appointed Christie Brandau as the new Kansas state librarian. And in Idaho, Charles Bolles resigned his state librarian position effective January 1. The Idaho State Library Board appointed Associate State Librarian Ann Joslin to fill Bolles' position.

Brandau replaces Duane Johnson, who retired the end of July after 22 years at the Kansas State Library. Brandau comes to Kansas from the state librarian position in Michigan and prior to that served as assistant to the state librarian of Iowa. During her Iowa tenure she was alternate member on the BCR Board of Trustees from the State Library of Iowa and in her new Kansas position will serve on the BCR Board again.

Bolles, who submitted his resignation in early December 2004, is not leaving the Idaho State Library, only assuming another role there. Initially he will serve as acting associate state librarian and has indicated he will "continue to participate in the improvement of library service in Idaho." Bolles has been a member of the BCR Board of Trustees since 2001, when the Idaho State Library first acquired its statewide BCR membership. He will continue on the BCR Board as alternate trustee from the Idaho State Library.
