Serials Solutions Releases
Federated Search Engine

By Rosario Garza
Serials Solutions, provider of e-journal access and management services, has released Central Search, a federated search engine, extending Serials Solutions' suite of offerings for libraries. Central Search allows patrons and librarians to search disparate digital resources from a single interface, aiding patrons' access to libraries' collections.

As with other Serials Solutions services, libraries that are members of BCR save 20 percent on their Central Search subscriptions.

Central Search has many useful features, including de-duplication of results, flexible results sorting, dynamic status indicators and a customizable user interface. Through a strategic partnership with Web- Feat, Central Search software is able to connect to databases using WebFeat translator technology and technology developed by Serials Solutions. This delivers coverage to virtually all of a library's full-text databases, abstract and index databases and local catalogs.

Central Search is fully integrated with Serials Solutions' entire portfolio of services for libraries. Central Search leverages Serials Solutions' knowledgebase, potentially eliminating duplicate data management work. Central Search employs hardware and software hosted on Serials Solutions' servers, eliminating complex IT tasks at the local level. It also provides comprehensive usage statistics.

For patrons, Central Search's integration with other access tools, including Serials Solutions' E-Journal A.M.S., Full MARC Records service and Article Linker, delivers access to a significant portion of a library's resources.

To learn more about Central Search, visit the Serials Solutions Web site at www.serialssolutions.com. If you are a current Serials Solutions customer, contact your sales representative.

Remember, the BCR 20 percent discount on your library's Serials Solutions services also applies to this newest offering.
