Sign Agreement

BCR and Backstage Library Works have signed an agreement that gives BCR member libraries a discount on authority control services.

Users of OCLC's MARS authority control services may remember that Backstage Library Works (BLW) purchased the MARS authority control services from OCLC last fall. BLW was formed in 2003 with the merger of MARC Link and Access Imagery. MARC Link was formerly known as Retro Link and was a division of epixtech.

The agreement gives BCR member libraries a 2.5 percent discount and the convenience of having their BLW work billed through their BCR account.

Backstage Library Works is now offering authority control using a variety of authority files including:

LC Name Authority File (NAF)
LC Subject Authority File (SAF)
LC Children's Authority File
National Library of Medicine MeSH Authority File
National Library of Canada Canadiana Authority File
National Library of Canada Canadian Subject Headings Authority File
The Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT)
Guidelines on Subject Access to Individual Works of Fiction, Drama, etc. (GSAFD)

In addition to the machine processing that has been a part of the MARS authority control service for many years, BLW now offers full manual review. Libraries can also set up ongoing authority control of bibliographic records being added to their databases, arrange to be notified of authority file changes or add Tables of Content to existing records.
