Oxford Changes ANB Pricing Method
as New Subscription Year Approaches
By Laura Chittivej
Current BCR American National Biography (ANB) subscribers need to take note of the new tiered pricing
structure introduced by Oxford University Press for 2005-2006. The lowest price tier is $473 for from 1
FTE to 2,499 FTEs. The highest price tier is $6,296 for 35,000-plus FTEs. Secondary school ANB
subscribers will need to renew access at $266 per building. As always, remote access is included in the
subscription price.
In addition to the change to tiered pricing for ANB, all other Oxford online products have increased in price
about 10 percent, excluding Oxford Scholarship Online and the new Oxford Dictionary of National
Biography (Oxford DNB), which remain at the current 2004-2005 subscription prices.
Subscription Renewals
The BCR Oxford University Press (OUP) group subscription year runs July 1 through June 30. Current
BCR OUP group subscribing libraries should plan to renew their subscriptions before the June 30 deadline.
Timely renewal of orders ensures uninterrupted access for users.
During the 2004-2005 subscription year OUP introduced Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (DNB),
the first revision of the Oxford DNB in more than 100 years. (See the September 2004 issue of Action for
Libraries.) The reference work provides more than 50,000 signed biographies of men and women who
shaped all aspects of the British past, from earliest times to the end of the year 2000. Nearly 36,500
biographies from the first edition have been revised or completely rewritten, and 13,500 new biographies
added. The reference site has state-of-the-art search options, extensive internal cross-referencing and
navigation by themes. For more information on Oxford DNB, please go to:
www.oup.com/oxforddnb/info/online/.
All BCR members are invited to take advantage of the May 1 through June 30 free trial. Please sign up at:

New Subscribers
To begin a new subscription, transfer a direct account or to renew your existing subscription, go to
www.bcr.org/reference/OUP/OUP-Form.html.
The form also functions as a cost calculator, allowing
libraries to try out different database purchasing plans, without any subscription obligation. For more
information please contact BCR's Laura Chittivej (lchittiv@bcr.org).
