Serials Solutions Releases Electronic
Resource Management System

By Rosario Garza
Serials Solutions' newest service - Electronic Resource Management System (ERMS) — is designed to help librarians more easily manage their electronic resources. ERMS helps library staff to deal with the existing processes of a resource's lifecycle. The new system can assist in finding ways to:

  • Reduce the staff time required to manage a library's electronic collection.
  • Reduce collection purchase and maintenance costs.
  • Grow a collection to best suit the needs of a library's own patrons.

With the ERMS Overlap Analysis tool, librarians can find out what unique titles would be gained by adding a particular package to a collection, prior to its purchase. A free trial, which allows feedback from participants to be recorded, is available to help library managers decide whether to proceed with negotiating a purchase of ERMS. The License Manager feature records terms of use and resource license data. Another feature helps handle embargo dates.

Other features of ERMS let library staff integrate proxy URLs into their electronic resources. The statistics feature provides click-through statistics and information on subject browsing done by a library's users. Another feature is the ability to compare a library's use of a database against peer institutions.

For more information about ERMS, visit www.serialssolutions.com/promotion/ERMS/ default.asp. Pricing information is available, but remember that BCR member libraries receive a 20 percent discount. For information about Serials Solutions other services, visit www.serialssolutions.com/home.asp.
