PBS Introduces 'NerdTV'
On September 6, PBS offered the first episode of the new weekly TV show "NerdTV." What makes this
show interesting is that it's not being broadcast. To watch it you need to go to the show's Web site
(www.pbs.org/cringely/nerdtv/) and download each episode in the QuickTime format.
The show is described as "essentially Charlie Rose for geeks" and may be of interest to staff who are
responsible for technology at their libraries. You may even pick up a few good tips. Each episode will be a
one-hour interview with technology columnist Robert X. Cringely along with an important figure in
technology. The first episode (the only one available at the time of this writing) was with Andy Hertzfeld,
the first Macintosh programmer. Future episodes will include interviews with PayPal cofounder Max
Levchin, Apple Computer cofounder Steve Wozniak, TCP/IP inventor Bob Kahn and Google CEO Eric
Schmidt.
Since these are interview shows, PBS also makes the audio available in multiple formats for downloading
and transfer to your portable digital music device for listening on the move. Unfortunately, there is not yet
an RSS feed allowing you to subscribe to the audio as a podcast. (I've sent in that suggestion and encourage
you to do so to if you're interested in such a feature.)
