Brunell Announces Retirement from BCR
BCR Executive Director David H. Brunell has announced that he will retire this spring.
Brunell has headed the Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR) since 1984 when he took over the executive director's position from
Dr. JoAn Segal. During his 21 years as director, BCR has grown into one of the largest library service networks in the country, serving
more than 4,000 libraries across the West.
"I am very proud of BCR and the role that I have had in shaping this fine organization and helping the library community," Brunell said. "Over the years I have had the pleasure to meet with hundreds of creative colleagues who share my passion for library networking. Working with them has always been a privilege and often a lot of fun, too."
Brunell's final day in BCR's offices will be around mid-April. Rosario Garza, BCR assistant director of Member Services, will serve as acting director until the BCR Board of Trustees selects a new executive director.
The Board has appointed a Search Committee chaired by Sandra Barstow, University of Wyoming Libraries; other committee members are Wyoming State Librarian Lesley Boughton; Mary Ann Hansen, Renne Library, Montana State University; Teresa Garrison, Kansas City Kansas Public Library and Kansas City Public Schools USD #500; and BCR Business Office Manager Darrell Vigil, representing staff. Interviews are being scheduled at the May Board meeting.
