BCR Expands Online Learning Opportunities for Members

By Brandie Baumann
As part of an on-going commitment to constantly expand distance learning opportunities for its members, BCR has added another source of online education. On October 1, BCR joined regional networks from other parts of the U.S. as a participant in the Network Education Exchange (NEE). Designated online courses offered by any other NEE participating network are available to BCR members at the sponsoring network's member price.

BCR member libraries now have access to a wider array of topics than ever before, providing library staff the opportunity to further develop their skills and knowledge. "I'm very excited about the diversity of courses available to our members through the Network Education Exchange," said BCR Executive Director Brenda Bailey-Hainer. "The content will be created by experts who may live elsewhere in the country, but BCR members can take these courses without leaving their library - and at a price they can afford."

Just a few of the many classes offered through NEE during the coming months include:

  • Dealing with Diversity: What Changing Demographics Mean to Your Library
  • Ready Reference and More on the Internet
  • Metadata for Digitized Resources
  • Project Management for Digital Imaging
  • Web Publishing: The Basics
  • Pop Culture: Unlikely Advocacy Tool
  • Using PDAs in Libraries

Signing up for a NEE workshop offered by another participating network is quick and easy. The workshops are listed on BCR's Web site and identified by the NEE logo. Clicking on the course name will take you to a description of the offering. When you find a class you would like to sign up for, you register online directly with the providing network and pay by credit card.

Find a list of current online courses available through the NEE agreement. To receive regular updates on new workshops and training-related announcements, sign up for BCR's Continuing Education RSS feed. For questions or comments, contact Regan Harper at BCR.
