Action for Libraries
OCLC Update
By Regan W. Harper
Free Webinar for OCLC Language Sets Service
A short, free webinar is now available that summarizes the benefits of using the OCLC Language Set services to build your library's
multilingual collections with fiction and nonfiction books, videos and DVDs. The Language Sets service offers preselected sets of current
popular materials in 13 languages, while the Custom Collection option lets you design a collection based on your library users' specific
needs.
Subscribers receive current and popular titles, full-level MARC records for each title, plus free shipping and cataloging. Your new holdings are added to the WorldCat database of shared records from libraries around the world, which means users will be able to find library materials on the Web through familiar sites such as Yahoo! Search and Google. Language- specific posters and bookmarks are included in the service to help promote your non-English resources.
You may sign up today for a Web session. The 20-minute presentation includes an overview of Language Set content, delivery options, pricing and information about how you can create your own custom collections. Dates and times are February 9, 1-2 p.m., and February 10, 4-5 p.m. (Eastern time). To register or for more information, visit www.oclc.org/info/languagesets/. If you have any questions about the service, please contact Linda Gonzalez (lgonzale@bcr.org) at BCR or langsets@oclc.org at OCLC.
End of Life for OCLC Connexion Client 1.40
The OCLC Connexion client 1.40 will be discontinued on March 1. Connexion client 1.40 users will receive an upgrade warning message
each time they start the client software. This warning will continue to display until a library upgrades to 1.50. Until March 1, users can
bypass this warning and continue utilizing client 1.40. As of March 1, users will not be able to log on with Connexion client 1.40.
For more information about client 1.50 and to download the software, please see www.oclc.org/connexion/interface/client/enhancements/recent.htm.
