Action for Libraries

This Is Not Your Same Ole BCR Monthly Newsletter

By Sharon Hoffhines
Welcome to the new online-only edition of Action for Libraries. The new look and electronic format are just the first changes for BCR's monthly newsletter. We hope over the next few months to bring you expanding information about what BCR has to offer that can enhance your library and help you better serve your patrons and your community.

In addition, BCR hopes you, our members, will take more ownership of this newsletter. We want to be able to publish your news — new positions, promotions, awards and recognitions, accomplishments, new or expanded facilities for your library, etc. — in a more timely manner and in a more visible format so our colleagues throughout the BCR region will learn of your successes. We also hope to publish stories about innovative uses of BCR products and services, stories that show how librarians are succeeding in delivering high-quality services despite such challenges as tight budgets and changing technology. Please send your news and ideas for stories about your library and your BCR successes to Sharon Hoffhines (shoffhin@bcr.org) or mail them to BCR, 14394 East Evans Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014-1478.

Let us know, too, what you think about the new online Action for Libraries. Is it helpful? Would you like to see other changes? How can we improve our communication with you? We want to hear from you!

We believe this switch to an online-only newsletter is already an improvement. Because we will not be printing and mailing Action for Libraries, the newsletter's production will not be as costly, meaning savings for BCR and, by extension, savings for BCR member libraries. And the ease and affordability of sending the newsletter out electronically means we will be able to reach each staff member at every BCR member library directly. No one will have to wait any longer for his or her name to come up on the newsletter routing list, as was the case with the print issue. BCR can add any staff member at your library who is interested in reading Action for Libraries to the AFL- BCR electronic subscription list.

To subscribe to this list, just send an e-mail message — subscribe bcr-afl — to majordomo@bcr.org. Each month when Action for Libraries is posted, subscribers will receive an e-mail message with a direct link to the new issue (available in both HTML and PDF formats) on BCR's Web site.

We hope to visit with you regularly via this newsletter. Happy reading!
