Action for Libraries
Visit BCR in Kansas, Oregon and Washington This Spring
By Brandie Baumann
Three state library conferences are being held in April, and BCR staff are looking forward to
seeing you at the one in your state.
At the Oregon Library Association annual conference in Salem, April 5-7, Dave Brunell, BCR's executive director, is scheduled to give a talk on "Optimizing the Acquisition and Use of E- books, Audio Books and Other Electronic Resources," on Thursday, April 6, from 2-3 p.m. This session provides an analysis of the cost effectiveness of several commercial models for purchasing and managing electronic information resources and is aimed at librarians responsible for buying and implementing e-books and related resources. He also will be on hand in the BCR exhibit booth. Librarians are encouraged to visit and talk with him about the many services BCR offers, including discounts on supplies, reference databases and training.
Ellen Fox, BCR's R&D manager, will be attending the Kansas Tri-Conference, April 5-7, in Wichita. She is presenting "Wikis and Your Library," on Thursday, April 6, from 1-1:50 p.m. Learn more about wikis and how they can help your staff connect with one another as well as with your patrons. And make sure to visit Fox at the BCR booth and pick up information on BCR services, training options, discounts and more.
Next on the schedule is the Washington Library Association annual conference, being held in Tacoma, April 19-22. Linda Gonzalez, BCR Member Services librarian, will be available in the BCR booth to answer questions and provide information for Washington librarians. In addition, Gonzalez will be giving a short introduction in the vendor demonstration area on BCR's new WebLive training and Free Friday Forum (F3) sessions. These new online workshops feature a live BCR instructor in a virtual classroom on the Web and allow staff to attend classes and Web conferences while eliminating the time and expense required for travel to a remote location. Some offerings this spring include "Using Google: Latest Tips and Tricks" and "Local Holdings Maintenance with the Connexion Browser."
Remember, all libraries in each of BCR's 11 member states (Alaska, Colorado, Kansas, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming) are BCR members. Come visit BCR staff at your annual library association conference and discover how libraries in your state can benefit from BCR services.
