Four people were elected to the BCR Board of Trustees this spring and will represent BCR member libraries over the next two years. New members are Ann Marie Clark, Nancy White and Kate Gordon. Greg Cotton was reelected to a second term. The four officially take office on July 1 with the beginning of the new fiscal year and will attend the first Board meeting of the year in September.

Ann Marie Clark

Ann Marie Clark
Ann Marie Clark, director, Arnold Library, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Washington, was elected special libraries trustee. She has served at Arnold Library since 1993. Clark is a member of ALA, the Medical Library Association and Washington Medical Librarians Association. She served as an OCLC Members Council delegate 2000-2002 and chaired the Washington State Library Council in 2002. Clark received her Master of Librarianship from the University of Washington in Seattle and has a BA in journalism from the University of Oregon, Eugene.

"I believe that the activities of BCR and similar consortia have had a tremendously positive impact on my own library patrons and on the patrons of libraries throughout our region," Clark said in her Position Statement. "The practical benefits of BCR's efforts are made obvious to me every day as I see my staff learn through training opportunities and as my patrons use resources that we would not otherwise have. The work of library consortia, such as BCR, are critical to the ongoing vitality of libraries everywhere. It would be a great honor to contribute to this pragmatic and effective operation."

Nancy White

Nancy White
Nancy White, Media Services specialist at Academy School District 20 (ASD20) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was elected schools and processing centers trustee. She has served at ASD 20 since 2002 where she provides support and training for more than 60 librarians, staff and volunteers. White served as secretary of the Colorado Association of School Librarians (CASL) 2005-2007 and created and administers the CASL blog, "Calling All School Librarians." She is a member of Colorado Power Libraries Implementation Team, the Colorado School Library Leaders, ALA and AASL. White has an MA in Educational Media from the University of Northern Colorado and a BA in music from Southern Illinois University.

"I have long been a proponent of BCR and the wonderful resources and training that they make available to libraries," White said in her Position Statement. "It would be a pleasure and an honor to serve this organization as a member of the Board of Trustees, serving as a voice for school libraries. I am also passionate about looking at the needs of our patrons in the 21st century, and assuring that all patrons have opportunities to acquire the skills needed to be successful in a 'flat world.' Libraries can play a key role in making sure that all people have access and an opportunity to receive help and training with the use 21st century tools. I would like to explore with BCR ways they might support libraries in this endeavor."

Greg Cotton

Greg Cotton
Greg Cotton, Technical Services librarian, Cole Library, Cornell College in Iowa, was reelected as an at-large trustee to the BCR Board of Trustees. In addition to his work at Cole Library, Cotton currently is systems librarian, consulting librarian for the visual arts, associate professor at Cornell College and adjunct assistant professor, School of Library and Information Science, University of Iowa. He also was elected a BCR delegate to OCLC Members Council in 2002 and served through 2007 when his seat shifted to that of first alternate. Cotton earned his MLIS from the University of Iowa and has a BS in mathematics from Northern State University.

"I have been participating in BCR Board meetings for five years, both as a Members Council delegate and as a trustee. During that time, I have been impressed by the breadth and depth of items on the Board's docket; I have been equally impressed by my fellow participants and by the BCR staff," Cotton said in his Position Statement. "Although I have been a consumer of BCR products and services for many years, my service with the board has proven to me many times over that BCR makes a positive difference in the lives of member libraries. From examining BCR's relationship with OCLC to exploring new avenues of BCR service, Board discussions are lively and engaging; the results of those discussions continue to exert positive differences in library service. I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve libraries in our region through my membership on the board; given the opportunity, I would eagerly continue that service."
