BCR Welcomes New Staff
In BCR's continuing effort to provide better service to its members, four new employees were added to the BCR staff in the last several months. Steve Walker moved from his duties with the Colorado Virtual Library to his new position as BCR's systems/network administrator on September 1. Meg McCroskey Blum, marketing coordinator, and Maura Dunn, product support specialist, joined BCR's Marketing & Support Division in early November. Also in November, Kelcy Wetzel joined the BCR team as event coordinator in the Human Resources & Communication Division.
As BCR's systems/network administrator, Steve Walker is responsible for the management and leadership of BCR technical operations, including maintaining the stability and efficiency of BCR's technical infrastructure. His duties include developing and implementing disaster recovery policies and procedures, including procedures for staff response, security breaches and other problems amd recommending technical operations changes, upgrades, maintenance and modifications to improve service and efficiency. In addition to managing the installation and smooth operation of multiple servers in a mixed OS environment, Walker provides technical support for a network of approximately 60 workstations in the BCR building. He operates BCR's e-mail system, including the Exchange server, and maintains the security and integrity of BCR's internal network, servers and staff PCs. He develops and implements policies and procedures for disaster recovery, ensures accountability for BCR technical operations inventory and plans for growth and change as well as service innovations.
Prior to coming to BCR, Walker served as systems administrator for the Colorado Virtual Library and ACLIN projects. Past working experience includes GUI/Web administrator at The UnCover Company and online support specialist for CARL Corporation.
Meg McCroskey Blum is the marketing coordinator at BCR, working with members, vendor/partners and BCR staff to design and implement effective marketing materials. As part of BCR's new Marketing & Support division, she coordinates with BCR's vendor/partners about sales and marketing goals and helps design tools that target appropriate audiences to increase use of products and services by BCR members. In addition, she coordinates with BCR staff to create effective marketing and advertising materials geared at increasing visibility and awareness of BCR. McCroskey Blum writes, edits and proofreads Web site copy and indirect marketing pieces, works on special marketing projects with BCR member libraries and conducts market research and data analysis for BCR.
Before joining BCR, McCroskey Blum was the owner-operator of The Envelope Please, a retail stationery and invitation shop on Pearl Street in downtown Boulder. Her time as a small business owner gives her a strong understanding of the importance of brand identity and targeted marketing. She also has experience as a consultant in market research, research design, business development and nonprofit fund raising. She earned her Master of Arts in Public Policy at the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies form Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee.
As one of two product support specialists in BCR's Marketing & Support Division, Maura Dunn is responsible for all aspects of member sales, service and support for a variety of services, including research databases and library products. She works with the Marketing & Support team to develop and implement marketing materials for BCR products and services as well as develop new information distribution channels for new and existing products. Dunn acts as a liaison between BCR members and vendors, working with members to troubleshoot product problems and guiding them through the ordering process.
Recently hailing from the state of Wyoming and a position as library technician for technical services at Laramie County Community College, Dunn is currently working towards her master's degree in Library and Information Science in a distance program through the University of Washington's Information School. She earned her bachelor's degree in history from the University of Wyoming.
In the newly created position of event coordinator in the Human Resources & Communications division, Kelcey Wetzel is responsible for coordinating BCR events and conference participation. She assists with public relations and marketing activities, both external and internal. Wetzel anticipates working with BCR teams in coordinating BCR activities related to library and museum conferences, as well as planning and executing a variety of events and meetings, including registration, assembling materials, preparing and sending correspondence and coordinating with caterers, hotels and other vendors. Other responsibilities include planning, recording and transcribing minutes for the quarterly BCR Board of Trustee meetings, as well as assisting with production, proofing and editing of BCR documents in both print and electronic formats.
Wetzel earned her Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Advertising with a Marketing/Management minor from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Her previous employment includes stints as a customer service content editor, an event marketing distributor and a graphic advertising designer.
