FY 2001-2002

The Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR) is a nonprofit library network created in 1935 to provide cost-effective training and information services for libraries and to promote resource sharing in the library community. BCR's large-scale group contracts allow member libraries to obtain access to the latest tools for information organization and delivery at the lowest possible costs. And BCR's educational programs help thousands of librarians in BCR member institutions understand how to use the latest technologies to provide reliable, efficient, automated library services.

There are now 1,065 voting BCR member libraries located in 39 states and Canada. Agreements with the state library agencies in Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming allow any library located in these member states to use BCR services as a member institution.

BCR project management and technical support services help librarians develop high- quality, Internet-based services and provide dependable online information resources for researchers, students, scholars and the general public. BCR interlibrary loan and document delivery services and our shared e-book collections, databases and online collection management tools are widely used to expedite resource sharing throughout the library community.

BCR Program Highlights...

Completion of 337 workshops, seminars, technology demonstrations and teleconference downlinks held at 78 locations in 16 states. More than 3,500 library staff participated in BCR's educational events.
Administration of statewide database projects in Colorado, Kansas, Iowa and Wyoming that provide cost-effective access to high-quality, full-text databases for more than 2,800 participating libraries.
Enhancements of discounted consortia pricing for Britannica Online, Books24x7, Bowker, Dialog, EBSCO, FirstSearch, Gale, Grolier, Grove, LexisNexis, McGraw Hill, Nature Online, netLibrary, OCLC, Ovid, Oxford University Press, Roth Publishing, Serials Solution, SilverPlatter, SIRS and H.W. Wilson services.
Research & Development services including the creation of customized databases, coordination of research and special projects and the implementation of new database services.
Development of seven new Web-based workshops available online to staff in any library located in a BCR member state.
The extension of full BCR services to 165 new member libraries, an 18 percent growth rate.
