Training and Support Services
BCR staff put a great deal of effort into providing high-quality technical training for staff from our member libraries. In FY 2001-2002 BCR staff and guest instructors taught 301 workshops and seminars at 42 locations in 12 states. An increasing number of librarians took advantage of our many Web-based distance learning courses. BCR sponsored or hosted 46 meetings, technology demonstrations or other educational events at locations across the BCR region. BCR staff made 15 presentations at state, regional and national library conferences. In partnership with the College of DuPage, BCR also sponsored two national teleconferences on virtual reference services and organized 100 free downlink sites scattered across nine of our member states. Slightly more than 3,500 staff from BCR member libraries participated in one or more of these educational events. During FY 2001-2002, BCR personnel answered an average of more than 1,900 support questions and gave responses to nearly a thousand e-mail and fax inquiries per month. The Internet-based support services are growing rapidly, with thousands of librarians now using the BCR electronic mail lists and accessing the BCR Internet site. The successful use of automated order forms for both database subscriptions and training has been a major factor in improving administrative efficiency at BCR.
