From the President of the Board...

Dear Colleagues:

Lesley Boughton

During the past year the focus of both the Board of Trustees and the staff of BCR has been to provide our members with the best service at the lowest possible prices. We are very pleased that we have been able to sustain the two price reductions on OCLC products last year. However, these price reductions require BCR to expand other value-added services such as training and consulting. As always, we have relied on member commitment and participation to keep BCR fiscally sound.

A measure of that commitment was made by the 12 state library agencies that underwrote the series of tele- conferences from the College of DuPage. These telecasts have been downlinked by more than 180 libraries throughout the region and have reached an average of 2,000 viewers per program, an outstanding return on our investment.

The Board will continue to explore ways to increase revenue and add value to BCR services. An ad-hoc Board committee chaired by Ernest Perez of the Oregon State Library welcomes suggestions or comments from BCR members. You can send these to ernest.r.perez@state.or.us.

The BCR Web pages offer a wealth of information on services, events and resources available to members. BCR has an outstanding staff that is eager to help and can provide exceptional services.

It has been a privilege to serve as president of the Board of Trustees. Best wishes from us all.

Lesley D. Boughton
