OCLC Releases Connexion Client 1.72
Version 1.72 of the Connexion client cataloging software is now available. This new interim version addresses several known problems in previous client versions. Recommendations and instructions for upgrading from either 1.60 or 1.70 are included below. Note that you will no longer be able to log on using version 1.60 after April 15.
In version 1.70, several problems have been resolved:
- Microsoft Windows auto-update KB918118 that prevented record display.
- Validation problems with Bengali, Devanagari, Tamil and Thai.
- Export problem that added incorrect subfield information in field 035 when more than one OCLC control number is in the field.
- Missing graphics for the macro recorder toolbar.
In version 1.71, the CJK problem with entering Chinese, Japanese and Korean script character using the IME has been resolved.
OCLC recommends the following:
- If you are using 1.60, upgrade directly to version 1.72 before the April 15 end-of-life date for 1.60.
- If you are using 1.70 with the 1.71 patch and do not need the fix in 1.72 for entering CJK script, wait for the release of version 2.00 to upgrade. Version 2.00 is planned for release mid-year.
- If you are downloading the client for the first time, download and install the complete 1.72 client software.
Important reminder! Uninstall current client version(s) before upgrading to 1.72. If you previously installed a patch for your version of the client and want to upgrade to 1.72, please remember to uninstall both 1.70 and 1.71 (or both 1.60 and 1.61, if that is the version and corresponding patch which you currently have installed) before installing 1.72. It does not matter in what order you uninstall; you may uninstall either one of the pair (full software or patch) first.
OCLC will continue to support version 1.70, the 1.71 patch and interim version 1.72 after April 15, 2007; however, you will no longer be able to log on using 1.60.
Instructions for installing 1.72:
- Open your browser to psw.oclc.org.
- Enter your OCLC authorization and password.
- Select the link for Connexion client only version 1.72 software or Connexion client 1.72 complete software. (See the installation instructions available at the links next to each software package for details.)
- Scroll to the end of the OCLC Software License Agreement and select I Agree.
- The download window should display the file name xxxxx.exe or xxxxx.exe.
- Select Save and specify a folder on your workstation where you want to save the file. Be sure to remember the folder location for the next step.
- In Windows Explorer, open the folder where you saved the file and double-click it to start the setup program.
- Follow prompts to complete the installation.
