Member Libraries Assistance Valuable in Maintaining WorldCat
An important part of the maintenance and improvement of OCLC WorldCat is performed by staff at OCLC member libraries who add call numbers, subjects, tables of contents and other data. They also upgrade minimal-level records and enhance full-level records. During the just-completed fiscal year 2007, OCLC cataloging member libraries accomplished the following:
- Database enrichment: 130,659 records (a 23 percent increase from FY2006)
- Minimal-level upgrades: 134,963 records (13 percent increase)
- Enhance upgrades: 89,047 (14 percent increase)
For a refresher on what member libraries can do in each of these categories, take a look at the following sections of Bibliographic Formats & Standards (www.oclc.org/bibformats/):
- Database Enrichment: section 5.4
- Minimal-Level Upgrades: section 5.2
- The Enhance Program: section 5.5
