International Data Enhancements Added to WorldCat Registry

OCLC has installed three enhancements related to international data to the WorldCat Registry.

These enhancements include:

  • Availability of two Australia-specific identifiers, the Australian National Union Catalog and the Australian Business Number
Australian libraries can now modify two Australia-specific identifiers, the Australian National Union Catalog and the Australian Business Number. Both identifiers are unique numbers issued by Australian government offices. Nonauthorized users (i.e., users who do not modify Australian institution profiles) are able to view and search the new identifiers via the Advanced Search option. Note: OCLC will pre-populate the Australia identifiers at a later date with the data available from the National Library of Australia.
  • Original Data Provided By Link Added
While viewing the Profile Summary for an institution, a link is provided for all non-OCLC data sources for records originally batchloaded from those sources. For example, for institution data provided by the National Library of Australia, a link to its Web site is provided under the Profile Summary.
  • New Data Sources Added
The National Library of Australia, the National Library of New Zealand and the National Library of South Africa have agreed to add further information to specific profiles.

A summary of the recent initiatives can be found on the OCLC Web site at www5.oclc.org/downloads/design/abstracts/08062007/worldcatregistry.htm.

The WorldCat Registry provides a comprehensive, extensible and secure Web platform for managing and disseminating library institution data. Using the registry, all of an individual library's institutional data for electronic content and other kinds of identifying and administrative information can be stored in one place.
