September Kicks Off Busy Fall Conference Season

September heralds the beginning of an active fall conference season for BCR. Librarians from across the country are meeting at different venues to share their knowledge, experience and ideas. BCR staff members are pleased to be a part of the activities and looking forward to meeting librarians from a diverse cross-section of the library world.

Starting in early September, visit BCR at the following conferences and meetings:

  • AASLH — The American Association of State and Local History has scheduled its annual conference for September 5-6, in Atlanta, Georgia. BCR's Leigh Grinstead, CDP@BCR program coordinator, and Jay Ford, library services associate, are hoping to meet many new people at this new exhibit venue for BCR. Of particular interest to attendees is the new CDP@BCR, training and activities specially geared to the cultural heritage institution librarian. Please take a few minutes to visit Grinstead and Ford at booth #303.
  • WYLA — Look for BCR's Jay Ford in Cheyenne, September 13-14 at the BCR exhibit booth at the 2007 Wyoming Library Association conference. And, don't miss a chance to enter the raffle and win a BCR Training Credit Voucher, good for a BCR online or in-person workshop.
  • Northwest Interlibrary Loan and Resource Sharing Conference — Portland, Oregon, is the venue for the 6th Annual NW ILL and Resource Sharing Conference, September 20-21. Heather Clark, BCR's resident ILL and resource expert, will staff BCR's exhibit booth and present a short demo session, "BCR and Resource Sharing: Fare to Fuel Your Productivity." Attendees will have an opportunity to win a BCR Training Credit Voucher as well as one of the other gifts provided as part of BCR's cosponsorship of the prize drawing event.
  • ARSL — Set for September 26-29, in Columbus, Ohio, the Association of Rural and Small Libraries annual conference is expected to draw participants from more than 200 rural and small libraries from across the United States. BCR's executive director, Brenda Bailey-Hainer, and Regan Harper, manager, Training & OCLC Services, will be staffing the BCR exhibit booth. Bailey-Hainer and Harper are looking forward to the opportunity to meet a new group of librarians at yet another first-time conference venue for BCR.
  • Colorado Database Fair — Visit BCR staff at "Surfing Beyond Search Engines," Denver Public Library, September 27-28. Heather Clark, BCR member services librarian, is presenting "Technology X-Factor: Technologies that Make Using Databases Easier," September 27, 2:30-3:45 p.m. She will be exploring search options, including Federated Searching, open access, link resolution, Open WorldCat, Google Scholar and more. Please stop by the BCR booth and learn about the products and services BCR has to offer libraries in the region.

BCR staff members also are actively participating in several other meetings in September. Gillian Harrison, BCR manager of Marketing & Support, will be in Grand Junction (Colorado) on September 20, to participate in the Marmot Users Group meeting, Two Rivers Convention Center. Don't miss Harrison's General Session presentation, "In the Center Ring! BCR - The Balancing Act."

The NISO Electronic Resource Management Forum is scheduled September 24-25, at the Magnolia Hotel, Denver (Colorado). As part of BCR's sponsorship, all BCR members are eligible to attend this workshop at the NISO member price of $569 for the full 2.5 days. Single-day registration fee is $219 for members. Nonmember registration fees are $799 for the full workshop or $299 for a single day.
