BCR Staff Visiting Idaho, Nevada and Iowa Conferences

BCR staff members are busy preparing for three state library conferences during the first two weeks in October. The Idaho Library Association annual conference is being held in Nampa, October 3-6, and the Nevada Library Association conference is scheduled for October 4-6, at the Nevada State Library and Archives, Carson City. Iowa librarians will convene in Coralville, October 10-12, for the Iowa Library Association annual conference.

In Idaho, BCR's executive director, Brenda Bailey-Hainer, will be presenting the keynote address, "Reaching Your Users with Technology," 8:00 a.m., Thursday, October 4. Then, from 1:30-2:45 p.m., Shelly Drumm, BCR's emergent technology trainer, will be "Making Some Noise" at her "Podcasting and the Power of RSS" workshop. Learn how RSS can help librarians reach out to patrons in new and exciting ways and how libraries can harness the power of RSS by podcasting great programming from the library. Visit the BCR exhibit booth (#23) and learn about BCR's variety of products and services and what every library in Idaho has access to through the Idaho State Library's BCR membership.

BCR's Gillian Harrison, marketing & support manager, is traveling to Carson City for the Nevada Library Association annual conference. She is scheduled to present "Remember the User: Keeping Up with Technology Products," on Friday, October 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This information session will give librarians ideas on how to make intelligent and informed decisions about which technologies give the best return for a library's limited time and financial resources, as well as which technologies can best reach patrons wherever they are and whenever they want. Harrison will also be staffing the BCR booth and is looking forward to chatting with Nevada librarians during the conference.

Look for Linda Gonzalez, member services librarian, and Jay Ford, library services associate, at the Iowa Library Association conference. Gonzalez is set to present "RDA: The Next Generation of AACR," on Friday, October 12, 10:20-11:10 a.m. If you haven't heard about Resource Description and Access (RDA) yet, this workshop is for you. This next edition of the AACR, currently in revision, promises to change cataloging practice in much of the English-speaking world. Learn what is expected to change and what will stay the same. Also on October 12, Gonzalez will be hosting the ever-popular BCR Update from 11:20 a.m.-12:10 p.m. Both Gonzalez and Ford will be available in the BCR exhibit booth to answer questions, provide information and meet with librarians from Iowa.
