CONTENTdm 4.3 to be Released in October

OCLC has announced the upcoming October release of CONTENTdm 4.3. Free for all users with a current annual maintenance agreement, CONTENTdm 4.3 includes a number of new features. Update kits will be available for download from the User Support Center. CD copies will also be available for organizations that wish to do a clean install.

Feature preview
CONTENTdm 4.3 has several new features, a few of which are described below.

  • CONTENTdm 4.3 provides expanded support for PDF files. New features include automatic conversion of multiple-page PDF files into compound objects, search-term highlighting within the PDF, creation of thumbnail images from PDF files, improved text extraction and a subset print option that allows end users to select a subset of pages from the PDF file to save or print. These new features will make processing born-digital documents quick and easy. Additionally, pages of a compound object automatically generated from a PDF file will not count towards the total number of items on the server.
  • Connexion digital import is a new feature that allows catalogers using the OCLC Connexion client to add digital items to their CONTENTdm collections during their Connexion cataloging process. The Connexion digital import requires both a Connexion subscription and the use of CONTENTdm Hosting Services.
  • Controlled vocabularies can now be shared between fields both within the same collection and across different collections.
  • Interfaces for configuring OAI settings, the stop words list and the image viewers, at both the server and collection level, have been added to CONTENTdm Administration to make it easier to access and configure those options.

The search engine upgrade, which was originally planned for this release, has been postponed until Version 4.4. This version will incorporate the powerful OCLC Find search engine that is used for WorldCat.

A complete feature list for Version 4.3 will be available on the CONTENTdm User Support Center when the software is released.
