WorldCat.org Adds Links to WorldCat Identities/British Library Direct Service
WorldCat.org, OCLC's public destination site for the WorldCat database, has introduced links to WorldCat Identities. Also new are links to the British Library Direct service for purchase online.
WorldCat Identities
Located beneath the Details tab in WorldCat.org records, links under About the Author(s) take a searcher to the Identity listing for each name in the list. Each identity listing presents a profile (or identity) of a person or a company. The listing is meant to be a snapshot of the company or the person based on some 25 million personal and corporate authors mentioned in WorldCat. Profiled names include authors, musicians, actors, directors and others in key creative roles. Profiled companies can be publishers, film studios and other firms responsible for releasing a work. The Identities page includes an interactive publication timeline, audience-level bar graph, links to related profiles and more.
For example, view the WorldCat.org record for Star Wars Episode IV, and select any of the names listed under Details > About the Authors, such as George Lucas. You will be taken to a page listing works by Lucas, as well as information on genres, subjects headings and more.
British Libraries Direct Service
Also in WorldCat.org, links are provided to the British Library Direct service, where electronic copies of journal articles may be purchased. The links are provided in the Get It and Buy This Item portions of records and are delivered as secure PDF documents (typically within 24 hours). British Library Direct offers pay-as-you-go access to 20,000 international research journals in many fields.
