Next College of DuPage Teleconference Examines Library Trends

Mark your calendar for the final College of DuPage Soaring to Excellence teleconference, "Trends, Fads or Folly: Spotting the Library Trends That Really Matter," April 11, 12 noon-1:30 p.m. ET.

Join speakers Tom Peters, CEO of TAP Information Services and Lori Bell, Director of Innovation at the Alliance Library System, explore patron-created folksonomic cataloging (del.cio.us, LibraryThing and the new breed of OPACs); libraries and librarians in virtual environments (Second Life); and using social networks (MySpace and Facebook). Discover for yourself whether these activities are "trends, fads or plain old folly," and perhaps answer the central question being considered in this teleconference — "To what extent do libraries need to quickly adopt new technologies into their programs?" or "Just because you can do it, does that mean that you should?"

BCR member libraries have several ways to access the teleconference, but everyone should register. Complete the BCR Teleconference Registration form, making sure to indicate how you anticipate viewing the teleconference and checking off the April 11 session. Additional information, including viewing sites in your state, is listed on the BCR teleconference Web pages.

The 2007-2008 College of DuPage teleconference season concludes with the May 9 Library Challenges and Opportunities program, "Tools of Engagement: Attracting and Engaging Library Users." The session takes a look at what the most creative libraries are doing to engage current and potential users of the library.
