Grove Music Online Adds New Tools, Functionality

New features in Grove Music Online include an updated list of the most influential writings on contemporary music along with a new searching functionality that allows users to limit a search to the article being viewed.

The Essential 20th-century reading list outlines writings on contemporary music, covering composer tracts to periodicals to historical and theoretical studies published during the era. Hyperlinks are provided to help users explore related content in Grove Music Online.

A new feature, search within this article, is particularly useful for users accessing large articles spread over multiple pages, allowing them to search for terms within a single article, such as large country articles and articles on families. Look for the search within this article box near the top left of each entry. Simply click on the plus sign [+] to open the search box, enter the search term(s) and click search. The search box then expands to display a convenient list of search hits along with headings to contextualize them.

Oxford University Press is asking subscribers to participate in a 10-15 minute survey to assess how they can best serve the research needs of students and scholars using the reference database. Take the survey and be entered into a drawing to win one of two Amazon Kindles.
