Metropolitan New York Library Council Joins Shelf2Life Program
The Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) is the newest participant in BCR's Shelf2Life program. A consortium of 250 members, METRO is the first organization to join the Shelf2Life program.
”Shelf2Life is an exciting new opportunity for our libraries and cultural heritage institutions to share access to their legacy collections with each other,” commented Dottie Hiebing, METRO’s executive director.
BCR's president and CEO, Brenda Bailey-Hainer, noted that, "By working with the Metropolitan New YOrk Library Council, BCR is able to extend the Shelf2Life program to libraries and archives, large and small. We are also excited to make this a truly national initiative by working with prominent New York cultural heritage organizations."
METRO's alliance with BCR means that METRO members will be able to pool their contributions to the Shelf2Life program, saving valuable staff resources and forgoing the need to purchase expensive equipment.
METRO has helped its member libraries to deliver their services more effectively since l964. The consortium agreement between METRO and BCR will help these institutions make their unique collections available in a digital format to a much wider audience.
