Cataloging Sound and Moving Image: Introduction to Public Broadcasting Metadata Dictionary (PBCore)
Description
This online workshop will explore the Public Broadcasting Metadata Dictionary (PBCore), a metadata schema that is based on Dublin Core. This schema is ideal for describing sound and moving image resources for rich discovery, retrieval, and archiving purposes. Participants will have opportunities to practice with hands-on exercises.
NOTE: This course is designed for individual participation. Regardless of whether you attend as an individual or as a group, the fee for this online workshop will be charged for each person who views the session. All participants must register separately.
Who Should Attend
Staff from library and cultural heritage institutions who are interested in learning more about PBCore and how it can be used for describing analog and digital audio and moving image resources. Although not required, participants who are new to metadata, the digital environment, and/or Dublin Core may want to first attend the online workshops, Introduction to Metadata for the Digital Environment and Introduction to Dublin Core Metadata . Since PBCore is based on Dublin Core, these workshops provide participants with a strong foundation in metadata basics and Dublin Core, which are not covered in this PBCore class.
