Volunteer Staff, Big Ideas: How the Vermillion, Kansas Library Just Plain Rocks!
Description
In this installment of the “Libraries that Rock” occasional series, Shelly Drumm will interview Matthew Ekstrum, Chari Reynolds and Audrey Broxterman from the Vermillion Kansas Library (link http://vermillion.mykansaslibrary.org/). Vermillion, Kansas (population 107 per the 2009 census) is an incredibly small town, but their library has got some big ideas! Matthew set up their website which is run on the state-of-the-art content management system, WordPress, which allows them to display current and relevant content up on the web. As such, they’ve become the de facto weekly news outlet for their town. In addition, Chari is bringing history alive by re-publishing the town news from their collection of turn-of-the-last-century local newspapers. And the biggest part of all? They’re doing this with an entirely volunteer staff!
